It was created in 1957 for the former Home Secretary, the Hon. Gwilym Lloyd George. He was the second son of Prime Minister David Lloyd George, 1st Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor. the title is held by his younger son, the third Viscount, who succeeded his elder brother in 1983. Lord Tenby is one of the ninety elected hereditary peers that remain in the House of Lords after the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999, and sits as a cross-bencher.
